Walmart’s Vudu entertainment service is the latest to become available via Microsoft’s Xbox 360. It’s also compatible with the voice search and voice/gesture controls made possible by Bing and the Kinect peripheral.
To encourage consumers to try it out, Vudu is offering a $4.99 credit toward their first rental or purchase of movies and television programs.
“Vudu on Xbox 360 brings more fun into finding, watching and buying your favorite movies and TV shows,” Edward Lichty, general manager, Vudu said in a statement. “With the new, interactive features on Xbox 360 to browse Vudu’s library, along with special savings like 99-cent Vudu rentals, we hope to make the holidays even more entertaining and affordable for families.”
Among the movies in the retail giant’s under-a-dollar bargain rental collection are Jingle All the Way (starring Arnold Schwarzenegger) and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (Robert Downey Jr.), along with every first episode from all BBC America seasons. Other holiday films are on half-off offer. Additionally, Vudu is promoting early digital availability of Moneyball (Brad Pitt) and Abduction (Taylor Lautner).
Since Vudu is cloud-based, content purchased via the Xbox Live service is viewable on other Vudu-enabled devices or platforms including game consoles, connected Blu-ray players and HDTVs, tablets, computers, Walmart.com and more.
“Our partnership with Vudu marks a significant milestone in our vision to bring you all the TV entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy,” Pete Thompson, General Manager, Xbox Live said in a statement. “By bringing Vudu to the Xbox Live service and adding the magic of Kinect, we are transforming the way consumers experience entertainment forever.”
Vudu’s parent company Walmart also is offering deals on shipping for Xbox 360 consoles and all kinds of related stuff in time for Christmas.
