Amazon.com and Microsoft teamed up to give consumers another option for watching on-demand movies and TV shows.
Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download a free app that lets them access Amazon’s catalog of digital video content via their Xbox 360, an experience they can control by waving at or talking to Microsoft’s Kinect.
The app includes both pay-per-view and Amazon.com’s Prime Instant Video, a service with unlimited access to a library of more than 17,000 movies and TV episodes for $79 a year.
“Amazon Instant Video on the Xbox 360 console is among one of the most requested video features from our customers, so we are excited to offer yet another way for customers to enjoy Amazon Instant Video,” said Anthony Bay, Amazon.com vice president for video.
Customers can access their library of video purchases from Amazon on the Xbox 360 and sync the playback across devices, in addition to creating wish lists and other features.
“Working with Amazon.com marks a significant milestone in our mission to make the entertainment you love more amazing on Xbox,” said Ross Honey, general manager of Xbox Live Entertainment and Advertising, Microsoft Corp. “We’re transforming the way people discover and experience entertainment.”
