Sunnyvale,
Calif. – Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) is in talks to
acquired location-sharing startup Foursquare for as much as $100 million,
Business Insider reported, citing "sources close to bankers involved in
Foursquare’s current fundraising efforts." A "source close to
Yahoo" confirmed that the company has held discussions with New York-based
Foursquare, whose location-based mobile network was launched last year.
The
company has to date raised at least $1.35 million in angel funding, and reports
have indicated the company has been talking to venture capitalists such as
Khosla Ventures, Accel Partners and Andreessen Horowitz on additional financing
at a valuation of $80 million.
Yahoo declined to comment on the story for
Business Insider.
