Los Angeles
– "Avatar," the top-grossing film of all time at the box office with
$2.7 billion worldwide, set records for sales of DVD and Blu-ray discs over the
weekend as well, Variety reported. As of Sunday, the film had sold 6.7 million
copies in four days in just North America, of
which 2.7 million were on Blu-ray.

First day sales of 3.2 million bested
"The Dark Knight," which previously held the record with 2.7 million
units sold.

"The Dark Knight" was also the previous Blu-ray sales
record holder, although it took 18 months to sell 2.5 million copies on Blu-ray
— compared with four days for "Avatar."

News Corp.’s (NYSE:  NWS) 20th Century
Fox Home Entertainment noted that the film sold more copies in a single day in
grocery and drug stores than "The Dark Knight" sold during its entire
window of availability at those outlets.
