– The total time spent on social networking sites by users worldwide grew more
than 100% over the past year, as Facebook and Twitter posted large gains in
unique users, according to a report from Nielsen.
Traffic to Facebook.com was
up 69% year-over-year through March, while Twitter saw a 45% increase in site
traffic during the period.
Declines in traffic were posted by social networks
including Classmates Online, LinkedIn and News Corp.’s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace — which saw unique users fall 24.6% over the past year.
The average time per person spent on
social networks now stands at over six hours per month.
