Dulles, Va. – Filling a major void at its Dulles
engineering and technology hub, AOL (NYSE: AOL) on Monday named former Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) executive
Alexander Gounares as its new CTO. He succeeds Ted Cahall, who left the company
in January. Gounares most recently served as the corporate vice president and
CTO of Microsoft’s Online Services Division, leading strategic and technical
operations for projects such as Microsoft’s global advertising platform, Bing
search, MSN and Microsoft Virtual Earth. He also served for three years as
technology advisor to Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
