Washington – Both Thomson Reuters and Allbritton
Communications, the owner of Capitol Hill newspaper Politico, have expressed
early interest in buying news magazine Newsweek from The Washington Post, The
New York Observer reported. Citing "people familiar with the
situation," the Observer also said that Newsweek editor Jon Meacham is
mulling the notion of teaming with investors to submit an offer.

The Post last
week retained Allen & Company to help find potential buyers for the
publication, which has seen mounting red ink over the past three years.

Newsweek was launched in 1933, and purchased by The Post in 1961.
