Los Angeles
– Buzz Media, the publisher of a network of entertainment-related websites, and
a corresponding ad network, announced that it has signed six new music sites
for ad representation, and made a strategic investment in at least one of them.

Buzz signed new deals with PureVolume, PopMatters, Gorilla vs. Bear, The Hype
Machine, Concrete Loop and RCRD LBL.

While a press release from the company intimated
that Buzz had acquired these blogs — as it had in the past with Stereogum,
Idolator and others — Buzz clarified for Hypebot that these new deals are
"partnerships," mainly related to providing advertising on the sites,
which draw a combined monthly audience of more than 5 million unique visitors.

However, a Buzz spokesperson told Hypebot that "Gorilla vs. Bear is an
acquisition in the form of an investment with right to buy the remainder."

Both The Hype Machine and Concrete Loop told Hypebot that they were not
acquired, and referred to advertising partnerships.

"Buzzmedia doesn’t own Concrete Loop either. It’s
a unique partnership," the blog’s proprietor told Hypebot.

Adding to the confusion, PaidContent reports that a Buzz spokesperson said that the company had indeed bought Concrete Loop.

Los Angeles-based Buzz Media says
its network of sites reaches more than 50 million users.
