Washington
– Comedy has replaced news as the most popular form of online video, according
to a new survey from the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Some 69% of
adult Internet users — or 52% of all U.S. adults — have used the
Internet to watch or download video.
Comedy videos rose in viewership from 31%
of the audience in 2007 to 50% today, leading all categories.
Educational video
viewership now stands at 38%, compared with movies and TV shows (32%) and
political videos (30%).
The report also notes and 14% of adult Internet users
now say they have uploaded a video to the Internet, up from 8% in 2007.
Some
31% of uploaders say they "always" place restrictions on who can view
their videos, while 50% say they "never" restrict access and the
other 19% fall in the middle.
