Taipei, Taiwan – Mobile phone maker HTC
announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Abaxia, a France-based developer of
mobile applications.

The Wall Street Journal writes that HTC will pay about
$13.2 million to buy the nine-year-old company, which develops applications "that
quickly promote and monetize operator and handset manufacturer services on
smartphones."

"HTC is committed to creating the best possible mobile
experience for our customers today, tomorrow and into the future," said CEO
Peter Chou.

"The addition of Abaxia deepen and broaden our software
development capabilities so that we can innovate at an even faster pace."

Sprint said yesterday that HTC’s EVO 4G smartphone broke its single-day sales record last week.
