Los Angeles
– Citing weak sales, e-book reader device maker IRex Technologies has filed for
bankruptcy, Publishers Weekly reported, citing a local Dutch financial
publication. Netherlands-based IRex is a spin-off from consumer electronics
firm Philips.
The company’s $399 iRex DR800SG e-book reader went on sale in
February, missing the crucial holiday shopping period — due to launch delays
related to gaining FCC approval for the device, according to CEO Hans Brons.
The
iRex was available from retailers including Barnes & Noble and Best Buy.
The
company also makes the iLiad line of e-book readers.
