Santa Monica, Calif. – Image Metrics, a provider of facial
animation technology for the entertainment industry, announced on Wednesday
that it has acquired Character-FX, an avatar technology firm founded by John
Riggs.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Character-FX
integrated facial rigging tool-set was created for Autodesk and 3ds Max
development environments.
Image Metrics and Character-FX collaborated on the
animation behind the photo-real recreation of basketball coach John Wooden that
aired during the NCAA championships.
The company said it has named Character-FX founder Riggs as director of avatar development at Image Metrics.
