San Francisco – MySpace Music, the joint venture between
News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) and the major record labels, is considering launching a paid
subscription service before the end of the year, sources told CNET News.com and
Side-Line.
The venture is said to have "underachieved" with regard to
revenue goals, and is now in talks with the major labels on a potential subscription
service, according to the reports.
"We’re always exploring new
monetization opportunities, but have no plans to change our current service
which includes streaming free music," MySpace Music head Courtney Holt
told CNET.
