New York – Viacom’s (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks has acquired Social
Express, a developer of social games, for an undisclosed sum, VentureBeat
reported.

The San Francisco-based studio was founded in 2009.

Social Express
will now develop social games based on original shows from Viacom’s MTV,
Nickelodeon and other brands, with the first titles expected to appear in the
third quarter.

Social Express is also building a publishing platform for
independent developers.

MTV Networks’ game sites, which attracted a combined 22
million unique visitors in May, according to comScore, include
AddictingGames.com, Shockwave.com, Nick.com Games and Neopets.
