Moscow – Russian police have opened a criminal investigation
into a married couple believed to be the operators of Interfilm.ru, a
"pre-release" movie download site charged with copyright infringement
damages of $1.25 billion, according to published reports.

Authorities raided
the BitTorrent tracker in May 2009 at the behest of RAPO, an anti-piracy group
associated with the Motion Picture Association.

Husband and wife Ivan and Irina
Podorozhnikovymi, along with several staff, were arrested.

Russia’s Interior
Ministry Investigation Committee filed criminal charges against the couple,
with film producers seeking a staggering 38.7 billion rubles — or $1.25 billion
— in damages.
