New York – With the rapid expansion of its Patch.com
hyperlocal news sites underway, AOL (NYSE: AOL) said on Tuesday it has partnered with 13
colleges and universities to offer students internships and coursework
opportunities.
Under the PatchU network, students will work for local Patch sites
under the guidance of professional editors.
The program recently debuted at
Hofstra University on Long Island, and has since expanded to a dozen other
schools, including Stanford University and Cal-Berkeley.
Patch launched its
100th site in August and plans to expand to more than 500 U.S. communities in
20 states by the end of 2010, hiring more than 500 additional writers this
year.
