New York – Bookseller Barnes & Noble (NYSE:  BKS) on Wednesday
introduced the NOOKcolor, a new full-color touchscreen e-reader device that
will sell for $249. Built on Google’s Android operating system, the NOOKcolor
features a 7-inch screen; 8GB of storage; Wi-Fi support; access to a new
digital newsstand that Barnes & Noble says is the largest in the market;
and the Nook Color store, which features around 2 million titles.

A new
application called LendMe will allow NOOKcolor users to lend e-books to friends
for up to 14 days.

The NOOKcolor is available for pre-order today, and is
expected to begin shipping on Nov. 19.

The company added that a firmware update
for all Nook devices next month will bring increased page-turning speed,
improved search functionality, customized Barnes & Noble library
organization, password protection and continuous reading across all Nook
devices and software.
