Paris – French consumers have so far purchased 10,000
state-subsidized music download cards, launched by the government as a means of
combating piracy, Billboard reports. Aimed at consumers ages 12-25, the $35
cards enable purchasers to download $70 worth of music from participating
services. The French government has committed up to $34.8 million per year to
fund the download card subsidy.
