Lewes, Del. – CloudBees, a startup developing a Web-based
Java platform, said it has raised $4 million in its first round of funding, led
by Matrix Partners.

Several individual investors, including JBoss founder Marc
Fleury and JBoss/HP/Bluestone veteran Bob Bickel, also participated.

The
company said the funding is the first tranche of a multi-stage investment that
ultimately will provide it with the resources to build out its service.

Delaware-based
CloudBees recently began the process with its acquisition of InfraDNA and the
addition of its founder, Kohsuke Kawaguchi, creator of the Hudson continuous
integration server.

Founded by former JBoss CTO Sacha Labourey, CloudBees
emerged from stealth mode in August.

"With Amazon and others having paved
the way for cloud computing with affordable infrastructure resources, we see
PaaS (Platform as a Service) as the next cloud turf up for grabs," said
Labourey.
