Palo Alto, Calif. – Facebook voluntarily shut itself down
for a half-hour yesterday, after several new products were accidentally made
available to the public before the company had deemed them ready, Wired
reported. "For a brief period of time, some internal prototypes were made
public to a number of people externally," the company told Wired. "As
a result, we took the site down for a few minutes. It’s back up, and we apologize for the inconvenience."
The
shutdown affected all of the site’s 550 million users, and lasted from roughly
4:15 p.m. EST to 4:45 p.m.
The new products that leaked included revamped Brand
pages, and a photos features called Memories.
