Schaumberg, Ill. – Motorola (NYSE: MOT) has filed a patent infringement
lawsuit against TiVo (NASD: TIVO), alleging the company’s digital video recorder infringes
on patents held by Motorola, The Wall Street Journal reported. The patents in
question were filed for in 1995 by Imedia, which was later acquired by
Motorola.

"TiVo is attempting to assert its patents against technology disclosed
and claimed in Motorola Mobility’s patents, despite the fact that Motorola
Mobility’s patents were filed more than three years before TiVo’s patents,"
the company said.

Motorola said the lawsuit comes after TiVo sued Verizon for
patent infringement, over devices that feature Motorola’s patented DVR
technologies.

TiVo has also been embroiled in a patent dispute with EchoStar
and DISH Network for years, and faces patent litigation from Microsoft as well.
