Somerville, Mass. – Sproxil, a start-up developing
anti-counterfeiting technology, has raised $1.8 million in venture capital,
according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Founded last
year by a Dartmouth doctoral student, Somerville, Mass.-based Sproxil has
developed a mobile technology with which consumers can text message an item’s
unique code to confirm its authenticity, using simple labels and advanced
back-end analytics.

The company says it is targeting cash-based societies.
