London – A coalition of U.K. broadcasters has introduced the
Radioplayer, an application that at launch will offer 150 U.K. radio stations,
with another 150 local and community stations to be added in coming weeks, The
Telegraph reports. The Radioplayer will become the default player on all of the
websites of participating stations, which include the BBC, Global Radio, GMG
Radio, Absolute Radio and RadioCentre. The industry hopes to launch a mobile
version of Radioplayer within the next twelve months, before adding game
consoles, TV set-tops and other devices.
