Tokyo – Sony (NYSE: SNE) may delay the release of its new NGP portable
game system due to production disruptions caused by the Japanese earthquake and
tsunami, potentially missing the key holiday shopping season in some markets,
Bloomberg reports.

Sony Computer Entertainment America president Jack Tretton
told Bloomberg the company may only be able to launch the NGP in a single
region this year, adding that the delay would give developers more time to work
on game software.

Tretton did not say which market would get the NGP this year.

Rival Nintendo has already shipped its new 3DS portable game system to the top
global markets.
