Egham, U.K. – Apple’s (NASD: AAPL) iPad and iOS will continue to dominate
the tablet computer market through 2015 despite mounting competition from
Google’s (NASD: GOOG) Android and others, according to a report from market research firm
Gartner.

The firm predicts that Apple’s iOS will account for 69% of the media
tablet market in 2011, and will still be leading with 47% of the market in
2015.

Apple sold 14.7 million iPads last year, and is projected to see sales
increase to 47.9 million this year and 138 million in 2015.

By contrast,
Google’s Android will power 20% of the tablet market this year, growing to 39%
in 2015.

Research in Motion (NASD: RIMM) will see market share for its QNX operating system
— which powers the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet — grown from 5.6% this year to
10% in 2015.

"It will take time and significant effort for RIM to attract
developers and deliver a compelling ecosystem of applications and services
around QNX to position it as a viable alternative to Apple or Android. This
will limit RIM’s market share growth over the forecast period," said
Gartner analyst Carolina Milanesi.
