Somerville, Mass. – Music intelligence platform and app
developer The Echo Nest on Tuesday announced a partnership with streaming music
service Rdio, which they say will help developers build music apps using Rdio’s
catalog of 8 million licensed songs.

The first app developed via the
partnership, Music Maze, is billed as "a steerable music streaming service
that traces similarities between millions of artists after the listener starts
with a single suggestion."

Non-Rdio subscribers utilizing Music Maze or
other apps developed using Rdio’s catalog will be able to hear 30-second clips
of each track.

Rdio will provide developers with a 2-3% affiliate cut of any
resulting subscription fees, for as long as the referral remains a subscriber, or else 7%
of each a la carte song purchase.
