Mountain View, Calif. — Google consumers are activating more than half a million Android devices a day, Reuters reported, citing Android Chief Andy Rubin.
Making his announcement Tuesday through Twitter, Rubin also wrote that the devices were showing a week-to-week growth of 4.4 percent.
Google’s Android activation rate news comes just over a month after the multi-billion dollar company announced 400,000 devices were being activated every day.
Rubin did not disclose the number of Android smartphones or tablets being activated.
In March, mobile analytics specialists comScore MobiLens reported Android had the highest market share among US smartphone users at 34.7 percent of the market, compared to RIM (27.1 percent), Apple (25.5 percent), and Microsoft and Palm at less than 10 percent.
