Corbis Images, a leading provider of visual media for professional creatives, today announced it has acquired candid celebrity photo and video agency Splash News. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The addition of Splash will help Corbis attain its goal of providing customers with the most comprehensive, unique and differentiated source of imagery, said Gary Shenk, Corbis CEO.

“Splash photographers consistently capture the most significant celebrity stories around the globe, ahead of the competition,” Shenk said. “With Corbis’ global sales organization and web platform, we look forward to aggressively expanding the reach of this high-quality offering to our customers worldwide.”

Splash has more than 3,000 active photographers in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific, specializing in celebrities and entertainment. It has documented many well-known events and infamous scandals, including Sandra Bullock’s first public appearance with her newly adopted son, the first images of Michael Jackson’s first child, paramedics attending to Anna Nicole Smith just before her 2007 death, and Tiger Woods’ extramarital affairs. Splash also reached an out-of-court settlement involving an unseen video of the late actor Heath Ledger.

“We are thrilled to join Corbis and will continue to do what we do best – deliver the authentic, breaking content that connects the media with its audience,” said Gary Morgan, CEO, Splash.
