San Francisco, Calif. — Lookout Mobile Security, a mobile device security software developer, announced Wednesday an agreement with Verizon Wireless  to bring its Mobile Threat Network to the mobile carrier’s customers.

The new mobile threat protection app will automatically protect users of Verizon’s V Cast App Store at a time when mobile security threats are escalating.

“This is an easy and automatic way for people to stay safe,” Lookout cofounder Kevin Mahaffey told VentureBeat. According to Lookout’s blog, the platform is able to detect threats and deliver over-the-air protection to mobile users across the world.

If users feel confident about the security of their phones, they will do more with them, said Todd Murphy, director of business development at Verizon Wireless.

In addition to the integration of Lookout’s API with the V Cast App Store, the personal version of Lookout’s Mobile Threat Network app is available for free, with a premium version costing $2.99 a month. The company intends to expand its services to other mobile networks as well.

Lookout already has users across 400 mobile networks in 170 countries. Based in San Francisco, it has funding from Accel Partners, Index Ventures, Khosla Ventures and Trilogy Equity Partners.
