Watching The Big Lebowski has been a social experience for years, in the opinion of many students, stoners and fans of great movies. Now NBCUniversal has brought that offline phenomenon to the online world, by offering the Coen Brothers’ classic for rent and view directly through its Facebook fan page.

NBCUniversal’s new Social Theater app was created by Milyoni, a leading social shopping developer, and it incorporates the ability to share comments on memorable quotes and scenes while watching the movie. It also includes social discovery features that make it easy for fans to share favorite clips, quotes and comments with their friends.

It costs $3 to rent the film for 48 hours, payable as 30 Facebook Credits. In addition, anyone who rents the movie can send a $1 discount off the rental for up to five friends through Facebook’s “Buy With Friends” program.

The Big Lebowski is rated R and can only be rented by U.S. Facebook users who are at least 17 years of age. Having a rug that really ties the room together is optional.
