NBCUniversal announced that Stuart J. Epstein has been named chief financial officer, in which role he will report to NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke. Epstein, who will join the company in mid-October, replaces Lynn Calpeter, who left to serve as chief financial officer of Energy at General Electric Co.
It will be a familiar building for Epstein, who had been managing director of Morgan Stanley and Global Head of its Media & Communications Group, in which role he was a key strategic advisor to Comcast Corp. in the $37.5 billion joint venture with GE to create NBCUniversal.
Epstein previously spent his entire career at Morgan Stanley, having joined the firm in 1984 as a financial analyst in the mergers & acquisitions department in New York. In 1993, while based in London, Epstein assumed formal coverage responsibility for Morgan Stanley’s media clients in the U.K. and throughout Europe.
In 2005, he became head of the North American Media practice, in 2006 was named co-head of the Global Media & Communications Group, and became global head of the group in March of 2008.
