Reston, Va. – Sprint Nextel, the wireless carrier with major operations in Reston, has confirmed it will carry’s Apple’s newly revealed iPhone 4S, though that commitment is expected to come at a heavy price.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the company has committed to buy at least 30.5 million iPhones over the next four years, losing money on the deal until at least 2014.
Sprint will become the third U.S. carrier to sell the device, after AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
This is a huge gamble for Sprint and people are justifiably worried that they won’t be able to make any money doing it,” Stifel Nicolaus analyst Chris King told Reuters.
