Redwood Shores, Calif. – Oracle, the Silicon Valley-based maker of business hardware and software systems, said on Monday it will acquire Montana-based RightNow Technologies, a provider of cloud-based customer service, in a deal worth approximately $1.5 billion.

Oracle will pay $43 a share under the deal, which is expected to close either late this year or early next.

RightNow’s cloud-based service is designed to help clients improve their customer service across call centers, the web and social networks.

Oracle said the acquisition will bolster its growing slate of cloud services, and called the addition of RightNow “a very important addition to Oracle’s Public Cloud.”
