Aeria Games, a destination site for free-to-play online multiplayer games, has acquired free-to-play online gaming portal ijji Games from NHN Corp. Under terms of the strategic agreement, Aeria Games received an undisclosed financial investment from NHN and gets first right with preferential treatment to publish NHN online games worldwide outside of Asia.

Aeria Games chief executive officer Lan Hoang said this was the company’s first external funding. Among the games that now become part of Aeria Games’ portfolio are the relatively hard-core shooters Alliance of Valiant Arms (A.V.A.) and Soldier Front, which bring with them players that grow the company’s user base to over 35 million unique users worldwide.

The company already offers more than 30 games like the MMO Eden Eternal, the MMORPG Shaiya (pictured), the supernatural MMOFPS Wolf Team, the expansive strategy game Golden Age and the upcoming action shooter Repulse. Hoang said Aeria caters to dedicated players who average four hours or more per day, a strategy that results in much higher in-game purchase levels than social network games.

NHN Corp. was established in 1999 and is currently the leading multinational Internet company in Korea. Its products include Naver, Korea’s largest search portal (with more than 17 million unique daily visitors), and Korean portal Hangame, which has over 30 million registered users. Founded in 2006 and with offices in the U.S., Germany, and Brazil, Aeria Games publishes and develops high quality online games in nine languages – English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Italian, Turkish and Russian – covering more than 30 countries.
