Frontier Communications’ over-the-top streaming service TumTiki is using the Oscars as the theme of its latest initiative to promote viewership and social interaction.
It has created a series of Oscar-related badges for nominated actors, actresses and movies, and each has a corresponding collection of related movies, TV episodes and clips. Viewers are challenged to earn the badges in different ways, including browsing for a particular star’s films, watching an interview video, checking out the material gathered on a movie’s TumTiki page, and sharing content with friends.
In addition to bragging rights, these badges are used as part of a user’s score on a contest to predict the winner in those three Academy Award categories, vying for an iPad2 with a custom Golden Tiki skin and other prizes.
Content is available directly at TumTiki.com without redirecting to another site, thanks to deals with other services like Hulu and Amazon.com. Its library includes videos from major networks, including ABC, NBC, Fox, Bravo, FX, Syfy, AMC, National Geographic, Oxygen, Comedy Central and TBS; and, in some markets, news and content from local TV affiliate stations
