The Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California announced the appointment of three new members to the board of the non-profit consortium, which brings together entertainment studios, consumer electronics manufacturers and other stakeholders to improve the appeal of digital entertainment.

Joining the board are Bryan Ellenburg of Paramount Pictures, Don Eklund of Sony Pictures and David Wertheimer of Fox Broadcasting Co.

Wertheimer stepped down from his post of CEO and executive director of the ETC@USC in October 2011 to accept the position of president, digital at Fox. Among his achievements at the ETC, he created the Anytime/Anywhere Content Lab (pictured) and the Social Entertainment Lab, resources that have helped digital entertainment stakeholders examine and develop solutions based on the next generation consumer point of view.

“Having been at the helm of ETC@USC for nearly five years, I know what an invaluable service the center is to the entertainment and technology community,” said Wertheimer. “I look forward to serving ETC@USC in this new role with my fellow board members. My objective is to facilitate collaboration, continue to help improve the consumption of digital and affect the future of technology and entertainment.”

Eklund said he was looking forward to representing Sony Pictures on the board, observing that “the Entertainment Technology Center is a unique and valuable resource for promoting technology in our industry.”

Ellenburg said the entertainment industry was at a critical point in the evolution of how content is captured, transformed, distributed, and archived. “As higher resolution and faster frame rates gain traction theatrically, then into consumer homes, the Entertainment Technology Center will play an important role in shaping the consumption models of tomorrow,” he said. “I look forward to collaborating on these important endeavors with our studio colleagues, technology partners, and with the continued support of the Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California.”

The Entertainment Technology Center @ USC was founded in 1993, with the help of George Lucas, as a non-profit organization within USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. Its current industry sponsors include: The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Alcatel-Lucent, DTS, Lucasfilm Ltd, and TATA Consultancy Services, also Deluxe Entertainment Services Group, Inc., Dolby, LG Electronics, MasterImage 3D, RealD, Singapore IDA, Technicolor, TELUS and Thales.
