GameFly Inc. today unveiled Game of the Day, the latest step in its evolution from just disc rentals into a complete game service. This new feature of GameFly’s mobile app offers free or discounted games in limited-time deals made possible by partnerships with mobile developers and publishers.
Among the first titles to be featured are Gameloft’s The Oregon Trail, Armor Games’ Siege Hero (pictured) and Glu’s Samurai vs. Zombies Defense. As that sampling indicates, Game of the Day specials will be a mix of newly released titles with others brought up from the vaults of past favorites.
Game of the Day (GOTD) also gives GameFly a showcase for price drops and other promotions related to mobile games. It currently is available only on Apple’s iOS. GOTD is in addition to the app’s previous features like news, trailers and screenshots, membership management, social networking and e-commerce, which are also available on the Android version.
“With the popularity of the GameFly mobile app, we wanted to bring greater value to our millions of users by helping them discover great mobile games whether they be new games released that day or previously released titles,” said Sean Spector, GameFly co-founder and senior vice president of Business Development and Content.
