Anomaly, an epic science-fiction adventure in development as a major motion picture by producer Joe Roth, in October will be available as an augmented reality hardcover book and as a multimedia app.

Anomaly was created and written by Skip Brittenham and Brian Haberlin, with art by Haberlin and Geirrod Van Dyke, names familiar throughout Hollywood. Brittenham is one of the top transactional lawyers in the entertainment industry. He has worked closely with leading animation companies including Pixar, DreamWorks Animation and Illumination Entertainment, and has served on the boards of both Pixar and DreamWorks Animation, in addition to handling countless negotiations and other matters for people that include many leading studio executives, agents, and A-list talent like Tom Hanks, Eddie Murphy and Harrison Ford.

Haberlin is a leading comic and animation artist, possibly best known for co-creating Witchblade during his tenure as vice president of Creative Affairs at Top Cow Productions, and for his penciling/inking on Spawn for two years.

According to its creators, the physical book of Anomaly is being printed with an innovative wide-gamut process that allows for more detail and a wider range of color than conventional printing. When viewed using the free iOS or Android Anomaly app, readers will be able to explore more than 50 illustrations augmented with 3D animation and interactivity.

“What we’ve gone for is as much of a cinematic experience as possible, with pullouts that measure over 40 inches,” Haberlin said. “It is truly a wide screen experience that no other graphic novel can share. And unlike most ‘graphic novels’ ours is truly, entirely new, not just some collection of previously published materials!”

Anomaly also will be available as a stand-alone, interactive tablet app for multiple platforms, narrated by the likes of Vincent Corazza, Nana Visitor, Olivia D’Abo, Dave Fennoy, Keith Szarabajka, Hudson Leick and Anthony Cistaro. The tablet app also provides additional material like the backstory of how the Anomaly universe came to be.

“We want Anomaly to be a truly innovative reading experience, with a dimension of interactivity that has never been done before,” Brittenham said. “Brian and I have tried to create an action-adventure that also includes serious ideas in a deeply immersive environment, and we’ve designed the interface so that the consumers can choose how they wish to consume it. We believe this is the flexibility today’s consumers want.”

Description by Anomaly Productions: Anomaly is set in the year 2717, a time when most humans live in off-world colonies, and a single corporation, The Conglomerate, routinely conquers other planets to steal their resources. The story follows a group of explorers who embark on a diplomatic mission to a mysterious planet, only to find themselves embroiled in a global conflict between its exotic inhabitants. In a world where nothing is as it seems, faced with lethal terrain, killer mutants and deadly magic, their mission turns deadly.
