Digital media properties company Eqal has promoted Rob Weiss to chief operating officer. The announcement was made by Eqal co-founders Miles Beckett and Greg Goodfried, whose earliest successes include lonelygirl15, KateModern and Harpers Globe, a companion series to CBS’ Harpers Island.

Outgoing chief operating officer Paras Maniar assumes the role of chief strategy officer and executive vice president, Corporate Development.

Under Weiss’s leadership, Eqal launched its YouTube-funded original fashion and beauty channel, u look haute, and 20 sites including JenniferLopez.com, BellaThorneOffical.com, JWOWW.com and Bethenny.com.

Weiss previously served as chief content officer and head of Media Networks. He joined Eqal less than a year ago, having been CEO of digital media studio Parkwood Media Ventures. That company worked on content across television, gaming, online and wireless/mobile, as well as optimizing the value of distressed media assets.

Weiss previously was as a senior-level executive for several cable networks including VH1, FX and Fuse, having earlier served as co-CEO of Buccieri & Weiss Entertainment.
