Luxembourg – Internet telephone service Skype on Monday
filed to raise up to $100 million in an initial public offering (IPO) on the
Nasdaq. Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan, and Morgan Stanley have signed on as
underwriters for the offering, a date for which has not yet been scheduled.
Founded in 2003 by the Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom — who had previously
created file-sharing service Kazaa — Skype now counts 124 million users of its
Internet-based telephone and video calling service.
The company was acquired by
eBay (NASD: EBAY) in 2006, and then was taken private again when eBay sold off its
controlling stake in the company last year.
