Seattle – A landmark deal struck last month, that would have
given Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) a two-year exclusive window to sell to works from top authors
at its Kindle e-book store, has fallen though, The Wall Street Journal
reported. The Wylie Agency, which represents digital rights for titles by
authors including Norman Mailer, Ralph Ellison, Dave Eggers and V.S. Naipaul,
had agreed to provide Amazon.com exclusive rights to sell e-books for two
years.
However, Random House, which publishes many of the titles at issue in
print, objected to the deal and launched a boycott of Wylie clients.
Amazon.com
has removed 13 Random House-published e-book titles from the Kindle store.
Meanwhile, Random House has reached a deal with The Wylie Agency to distribute
the e-book titles, and told The Journal they will be back on Amazon within a
week.
