Los Gatos, Calif. – Online DVD rental service Netflix (NASD: NFLX) has
signed a 28-day DVD release window agreement with another Hollywood movie
studio, this time agreeing to hold off on renting Sony (NYSE: SNE) DVDs to subscribers
until a month after they become available for purchase in stores, All Things D
reported.

The company has recently signed similar agreements with Warner Bros.,
Universal and Fox.

While Netflix will see its access to DVD releases reduced in
these deals, terms call for each studio to reduce licensing fees Netflix must
pay, as well as increase the number of their titles Netflix can offer through
its Instant Streaming feature.

  1. it will be interesting once blockbuster is gone… there will be nowhere to rent new DVDs. everyone will have to wait 28 days to watch ANY new DVD (unless they buy it outright.) that… is not cool.
