Washington – The Obama administration plans to announce the
creation of a new "privacy czar," who will oversee a new initiative
aimed at policing Internet privacy, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing
sources. The initiative and piracy czar position are expected to be included in
a forthcoming report from the Commerce Department.
Currently, the U.S. has no
comprehensive laws governing online privacy; the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
has to this point handled privacy-related issues.
The Journal reports that the
Commerce Dept. report does not suggest specific new laws.
