New York – Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of online
social network Facebook, on Wednesday was named Time (NYSE: TWX) magazine’s 2010 Person of
the Year. Editors of the publication said they chose the 26-year-old "for
connecting more than half a billion people and mapping the social relations
among them; for creating a new system of exchanging information; and for
changing how we all live our lives."
Zuckerberg founded Facebook while a
student at Harvard, a process chronicled in the recent hit movie, "The
Social Network," and is now one of the world’s youngest billionaires.
Runners-up for the award included the Tea Party, Afgahanistan president Hamid
Karzai, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and the Chilean Miners.
Federal
Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke received the honor a year ago.

Yes, FB connected so many people. However, most of them are connecting for the sake of marketing their product. Translation: spamming. How many of these users really care for each other? It’s not about quantity, it is about quality of friends and connections which I don’t think FB has been able to solve effectively.
