Tokyo – Sony (NYSE: SNE) Computer Entertainment announced on Friday that
sales of its PlayStation 3 have now surpassed 50 million units, since the game
console’s launch in November 2006.
The company added that sales of its
PlayStation Move motion-sensing controller accessory system have passed 8
million units.
Sony’s online game platform, PlayStaion Network — launched
concurrently with the PlayStation 3 — now counts more than 75 million
registered accounts in 59 countries.
The PlayStation 3 platform now also boasts
a library of 2,128 game titles, which collectively have sold more than 480
million units worldwide to date.
