Overland Park, Kan. — Sprint Nextel disclosed in a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) June 28 that the company has received subpoenas and civil investigation demands from nine states over AT&T’s bid for T-Mobile.
According to Reuters reporting, Sprint received these subpoenas from attorneys general in the states of Hawaii, Illinois, Arizona, Florida, Minnesota, New York, Texas, Washington, Washington and Pennsylvania.
These writs come just after the third-largest U.S. mobile service company opposed AT&T’s $39 billion proposed purchase of T-Mobile, claiming the acquisition would be anticompetitive. An AT&T spokesman in June said their company had received similar subpoenas from the same nine states over their proposed purchase.
Although AT&T has not commented on this matter, the company stated a month ago that they were confident in winning regulatory approval for the deal in the first quarter of 2012.
