Comcast Corp. announced today it has named Neil Smit as chief executive officer of Comcast Cable Communications. Smit, who also serves as president of Comcast Cable, is responsible for all aspects of the company’s cable business and reports directly to Brian L. Roberts, chairman and chief executive officer of Comcast Corp.
Smit joined Comcast in March 2010 from Charter Communications, where he served as chief executive officer and director for five years. Before that he was president of Time Warner’s America Online Access Business, with responsibility for America Online (AOL), CompuServe and Netscape. Smit also held executive positions at AOL, MapQuest, Nabisco and Pillsbury after serving as a Navy SEAL.
“Neil has done a phenomenal job,” Roberts said. “He has driven innovation, improved the customer experience, increased the speed of the introduction of new products, and has expanded our company into new opportunities for profitable growth. I look forward to his continued leadership of our terrific cable team.”
