lawmakers’ sites are managed internally, the sites that suffered the attacks
are managed by a third-party vendor, GovTrends of Alexandria, Va.

Microsoft Sues Lithuanian BitTorrent Site for $43 Million

0

Redmond, Wash.
– Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against LinkoManija,
reportedly the largest BitTorrent file-sharing tracker site in Lithuania,
TorrentFreak reports.

With the aid of local anti-piracy agency LANVA, Microsoft
has filed suit against LinkoManija and its alleged operator, Kestas Ermanas,
seeking $43 million in damages.

Ermanas, whose assets and company have been
seized as a result of the lawsuit, is alleged to have facilitated the sharing
of unauthorized copies of Microsoft’s Office 2003 and 2007 software suites.

In
an interview with TorrentFreak, Ermanas maintains that he and his company have
not operated the LinkoManija site since December 2009.

TorrentFreak also
reported in November that LANVA reported the IP addresses of some 100 users of
LinkoManija to authorities on allegations they were sharing copies of Windows
7.

Nintendo Revenues Fall 23%; Earnings Down 9.4%

0

Tokyo
– Nintendo posted a 9.4% decline in earnings and 23% drop in revenues for the
first three-quarters of its fiscal year, ended Dec. 31. The decline was blamed
in part on the recession, a price cut for its Wii console, and a leveling off
of demand for the DS, a platform that is now five years old. Nintendo reported
revenue of $13.1 billion for the nine-month period, and earnings of $2.1
billion.

The company sold 11.3 million Wii consoles during the last three
months of 2009, an increase of 8% on the same period a year earlier, while DS
sales were 11.7 million, down from 11.9 million.

Nintendo expects to report an
annual profit of $4.1 billion for its fiscal year ending in March, down from
the $6.1 billion it reported for the prior year, but still above the $4 billion
projected by analysts.

The company projects its annual Wii sales to top 20
million by March, a drop from the 25.9 million it sold in its last fiscal year,
while DS sales are expected to reach 30 million.

Northern Film & Media Launches iPad Developer Fund

0

London – Northern Film &
Media (NFM), a regional development fund for the Northeast
U.K., on Thursday announced the creation of a new fund for
developers of applications for Apple’s iPad.

The firm is offering up to $64,500
for developers, with applications due by Feb. 24.

NFM said it is looking
for applications that "do stuff better than it would be done on an iPhone,
and differently from the way it would be done on a laptop or desktop
machine."

The firm said it would seek developers where 70% of talent is
based in the North East of England, and 50% of their budget is spent there.

"We
want the North East to have a place in the rapidly evolving global content
market," said NFM CEO Tom Harvey.

"We will do whatever it takes to
ensure that North East companies have every opportunity to get their products
developed, made, distributed and bought on whatever new platforms come
along."
