Palo Alto,
Calif. –
Facebook plans to remove
a button that allows users to "Become a Fan" of businesses, instead
replacing it with a "Like" button, the company wrote in a memo to
advertisers, published by the blog All Facebook.

The company said that the move
is "part of a larger effort to improve user experience, increase
engagement and promote consistency."

It is not yet clear whether users of
the site will still be able to become fans of non-businesses, such as
entertainment figures and productions.

Facebook called the action of clicking
"Like" a more "light-weight" way for users to connect with
a business, and expects the move to spur more connections across the site.
