. – Time Warner’s (NYSE:  TWX) Warner
Bros. Home Entertainment Group on Wednesday announced that it has acquired
Turbine, the developer of multiplayer online games including "Asheron’s
Call," "Dungeons & Dragons" and "The Lord of the Rings
Online." Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in
1994, Boston-based Turbine also operates a proprietary digital publishing
platform, and social networking platform that can integrate with existing
online communities and social networks.

"Outside of the games arena, these
platforms present unique opportunities for Warner’s other home entertainment
businesses," the company said.

The deal will also give full control of all
game rights to Tolkien’s works to Warner, which had previously controlled all
but literary massively multiplayer game rights.
